Happy Anniversary!
It's been 20 long years since the release of Half-Life 2, and the care we have for it so many years later is testament to how important of a game it was for the entire industry. We wouldn't be here without Half-Life 2 being as great as it was, and still is. So far, it's inspired us to make 5 releases of Half-Life 2: Remade Assets, work on Project 17, and contribute to Half-Life 2 RTX. All to try and capture that original feel for a new generation of fans. In all of our work we've aimed to preserve Half-Life 2's greatness in the most honest ways we can, and we hope to keep that up.
Everyone from Project 17 and Orbifold Studios wishes Half-Life 2 a happy anniversary, and extend a heartfelt thanks to all of it's developers, and the massive community that it's spawned. If you haven't seen it already, we highly recommend you check out the fantastic documentary Valve recently put out on the development of Half-Life 2.
This new documentary has been eye-opening for all of us on the team, and we all think it's shown that now is a very good time to be a Half-Life fan. The future of the series is looking brighter than ever, and we're all very much looking forward to what's to come.
Half-Life 2 RTX
As per our last blog post, we've picked up a new project, Half-Life 2 RTX, and that's where a lot of our developer bandwidth has been dedicated since that time. We've still been hard at work recreating assets for use in both HL2RTX and Project 17.
One of our artists also had the opportunity to do an interview with 80.lv recently and broke down their workflow. We highly recommend checking it out you are curious about the nitty gritty procceses of the asset creation pipeline.
In case you missed it, our sister project has had a major update in time for the anniversary, which comes with an official launch of our Steam page! If you're at all interested we highly encourage you to wishlist as it helps highly with our metrics, not to mention the morale boost to the team. NVIDIA has also graciously put together a small video with some developer interviews going into what Half-Life 2 means to us, and what we're aiming to do with our projects. Check it out if you haven't already!
You Didn't Think We Were Done, Did You?
It's also been a long time since our last blog post or update as well, so we wanted to drop in and let you all know we're very much still around, just busier than ever.
To recap, HL2RTX has been in development in tandem with Project 17, sharing assets between projects. We partnered with NVIDIA on HL2RTX to help alleviate our long-standing issue of filling out missing character assets, which has proven a major blocker to Project 17's release. While we're limited on the details we can share, we're more than happy to say this plan is coming to fruition. Since our last blog post, we've massively expanded our team and continued to refine and iterate on our environments and assets, bringing Project 17 is closer than ever to release. With that said, there's still work to be done.
And of course, we don't want to leave you empty handed, so we'll leave you with this small teaser image from Project 17.
